Davidson, NC March 2008 - Abersham, a new settlement by the William Brewster Company within the town of Davidson, North Carolina, has been cited by Davidson, NC Mayor John M. Woods as supporting and advancing the "green-based core values" of the town that has long followed environmentally-conscious growth policies and urban planning design strategies. In his column in The Town Message - Summer 2007, Mayor Woods explained his town’s mission statement as one based upon "controlling its own destiny as a distinct, sustainable municipality." Two core "green-based" values - village-centered growth with the preservation of rural areas and the provision of public spaces, as well as the protection of watersheds, trees, air quality and other elements of the town’s ecology, " are supported and advanced by the addition of Abersham," explained Woods.
Developed by William Brewster Company, Abersham has followed the town of Davidson’s development plan from its very inception. 100 acres of land (approximately half its total geography) is protected open space managed by a non-profit land conservancy. This open space is used as greenways that connect to the town’s larger system of greenways, which encourage pedestrian traffic into town and minimize vehicular traffic.
